#Blogmas Day 20 I Favorite Publishers

Happy #Blogmas Day 20 Bookworms! Today we are talking publishing imprints – and more specifically my top 5 favorite ones. I will also be recommending some of my favorite books from each in case you’re looking to add some more books on your 2020 TBR. 🙂

1. Orbit Books
Orbit is my highest read publishing imprint this year, by quite a large margin. And, I’ve really enjoyed all the books I’ve read by them. As of the posting of this, I’m currently in the middle of two Orbit books. And I’ve got one more I would love to read before the end of the year.
»» How Long ‘Till Black Future Month by NK Jemisin
»» Seven Blades in Black by Sam Sykes
»» Leviathan Wakes by James SA Corey
»» The Shadow of What Was Lost by James Islington
»» Jade City by Fonda Lee

2. Gollancz
So Gollancz is a UK publisher, and while I don’t read a ton of different things from them, I get the Gollancz/UK editions of ALL the Brandon Sanderson books I buy. Because their covers are *chef’s kiss* seriously, they’re stunning!
»» Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
»» The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
»» The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
»» Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

3. Tor/Tordotcom/TorTeen
So this is kind of a cheat, but when you combine all three imprints, I read quite a bit from Tor. Though, I definitely have read the most from Tordotcom. They’ve got quite a few fantastic novella series that I really enjoy.
»» All Systems Red by Martha Wells
»» Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire
»» A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab
»» Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

4. Harper Voyager
This is a publisher that kinda sprang up on me. I didn’t realize how many books I’ve read from them until I was looking at my spreadsheet. But, they publish some of my favorite SFF series – and I love their editions of Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings Books.
»» Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb
»» The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
»» The Poppy War by RF Kuang
»» The City of Brass by SA Chakraborty

5. Del Ray
I knew I had a quite a few Del Ray books on my shelves because they publish lots of the Star Wars books, but I didn’t realize that they also published some of my favorite fantasy books I’ve read this year.
»» Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik
»» The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden
»» Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
»» Rogue One by Alexander Freed

So what publishing imprints do you read/own the most books from? Any that surprised you? Are you more inclined to pick up a book if a certain imprint is publishing it?

Happy Reading ♥

  1. Orbit tops my list as well. In part because they publish some really great books and in part because they are the only publisher from whom I receive arcs and books prior to publish date. The latter just sort of happened and it hasn’t with other publishers. I’ve found the folks at Orbit great to work with.

  2. I have to say I don’t always pay attention to the publisher on my books, like I usually know it but I don’t make a note of knowing it if you know what I mean!! 😂
Gollancz does have great covers for Sanderson’s book and I want to collect them all. I love how they all match but have a different colour! It is so cool and I love it so much!!
Harper Voyager has a lot of books that I want to read it so I hope I can get to them soon!!
One publisher (or imprint from another publisher) that I remember is Hot Keys Books because on the back they have a little guide saying what it includes e.g. romance, magic, murder, horror in a cute little key. I always love that detail for some reason! 😂
    Great post!!

    1. It wasn’t something that I paid attention to until I started using a spreadsheet because it allowed me to start seeing the patterns.

Yes! I love how all of Gollancz’s Sanderson books match. It makes me so happy to look at my shelves. Haha.

      Thank you! 🙂
